When the Male (energy) is joined with the Female (energy), They both constitute one complete [spiritual] body, and all the Universe is in a state of happiness, because all things receive blessing from Their perfect body. Hinduism. Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.4.17 and 1.4.3: "He found no joy; so even today, one who is all alone finds no joy. He yearned for a second. He became as large as a man and a woman locked in close embrace. This self he split into two; hence arose husband and wife. Therefore, as Yajnavalkya used to observe, "Oneself is like half of a split pea." That is why this void is filled by woman. He was united with her, and thence were born human beings."

Judaism. Zohar, Genesis 101b: The verse, "And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent" (Genesis 24.67), our masters have interpreted to mean that the Divine Presence came into Isaac's house along with Rebecca. According to the secret doctrine, the supernal Mother is together with the male only when the house is in readiness and at the time the maculine and feminine are conjoined. At such time blessings are showered forth by the supernal Mother upon them.

Gospel of Philip 86. If the Female had not separated from the Male, she would not die with the Male. [Her] separation was the inception of death. Therefore Christ came, so that he might overcome the separation which had obtained from the beginning and again mate the two. And to those who have died in the separation he shall give life by mating them. Yet the woman mates with her husband in the Bridal-bed. Those however who have mated in the Bridal-bed will no longer be separated. Because of this, Eve separated from Adam --because she did not mate with him in the Bridal-bed.  (Gen 3:19, Th 11, 22)

Legend:

Like the biblical story virtually all the ancient myths reference creation as involving the split of polarities from an original state of unity. The Chinese story of P`an-Ku, separating the unity of yin and yang principles. The Egyptian Atum myth where the air God Shu separates Geb and Nut from their initial love embrace. The Sumerian story of creation and the uncoupling of the god An and goddess Ki from their commingled state. The Akaddian story of Marduck splitting the goddess Tiamat. The New Zealand Maori story of creation and separation of Rangi and Pappa. Aristophanes in the Symposium references how the Greek God Zeus cut the souls of humankind in half. "Man's original body having been cut in two, each half yearned for the half that had been severed.....Love is simply the name of for the desire and pursuit of the whole. Plato in the Symposium: "The original human nature was not as they are now, but originally three in number; there was man, woman, and the union of the two." (Third Gender)
